16 Days of Activism Against Abuse: Candice Derman Reads from Indescribable

Candice Derman

IndescribableEvery year from 25 November to 10 December, South Africa observes 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence.

The abuse of women and children isn’t limited to any particular section of South African society: it affects us all, regardless of race, creed or class.

Candice Derman was eight years old when her stepfather began to abuse her sexually. It lasted until she was fifteen. In Indescribable, Derman – an actress who has played leading roles in several popular television dramas, including Backstage, Scandal and Generations – describes what happened to her in the voice of her younger self.

It’s a deeply moving story, one that will leave you with tears of anger at the pain that the author endured. But Candice survived – and has thrived. There is always hope.

To mark this year’s 16 Days of Activism, Tafelberg Publishers presents Candice Derman reading from Indescribable:
