Antjie Krog Explores “Today I Do Not Love My Country” by Ingrid de Kok

Other SignsAt The Book Lounge launch of Ingrid de Kok’s new poetry collection, Other Signs, Antjie Krog presented an in-depth exploration of de Kok’s poem, “Today I do not love my country”.

“It’s not necessary for me to say that Ingrid de Kok is the best poet writing in South Africa today. We all know that,” Krog said in her introduction. She preferred to do something different and look at what exactly makes de Kok’s poetry so exceptional, by exploring one of her poems, line for line.

We bring you the handout Krog provided the audience at the launch, complete with a copy of “Today I do not love my country” and careful notes in her own handwriting, as well as a document of the analysis she delivered on the evening:
