Mangaung Update: Application for Court Interdict to Stop North West Province Delegation
The Mail & Guardian‘s Mmanaledi Mataboge has reported that ANC branches in the North West province have applied to the High Court for an interdict to stop their province’s delegation from attending the party’s electoral conference in Mangaung.
The interdict is supported by about 700 branch members from the four regions of the province, who say that the nomination process was unlawful. The province is divided, with one faction supporting President Jacob Zuma’s re-election and another, led by province secretary Kabelo Mataboge, calling for change and for Kgalema Motlanthe to take over.
The case is scheduled to be heard at the North West High Court in Mahikeng on Friday, on the eve of the beginning of the ANC’s national conference in Mangaung.
A lack of response from the ANC and the fact that the party was not represented in court were the main reasons the matter could not be heard urgently on Tuesday.
